A Black Lives Matter protest is being planned for A Black Lives Matter protest is being planned for this Saturday at 9am at the Bishop City Park. This will be a peaceful demonstration that will remain at the park. . A word from the organizers, “Hello people of Bishop, we encourage you to join us for another peaceful protest in solidarity to the Black Lives Matter movement. Over the last events, we’ve seen so much support and motivation to keep fighting for racial equality. We urge you to wear masks, bring sunglasses, and wear sunscreen as we are in the summer months. Brian Hatfield of the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will share his photos and research on “Detecting the Threatened Sierra Nevada Red Fox.” The SNRF is a one of the rarest mammals in North America, limited to a handful of populations scattered across Oregon and northern California. A small population near Sonora Pass was thought to be at the southern limit of its range. But sightings two years ago in the Mono Creek area northwest of Bishop created renewed interest in this fox, as this was the furthest south this animal has been found in nearly 100 years.. . Brian Hatfield is the coordinator of surveys for the Sierra Nevada red fox and other alpine mesocarnivores in the central and southern Sierra Nevada. There will be an opportunity to ask Brian questions after the presentation. . Last night 3 action teams were formed for the following: 1. Getting solar onto commercial buildings. 2. Reaching out to the youth and creating opportunities to get them involved. 3. Creating a green certification for local businesses. Here’s Orion presenting the action plan from the Youth Outreach Group. Weren’t at last nights gathering and want to get involved?
