1. Buy a clothesline and dry your clothes outside. Not only will this reduce your carbon footprint, but will also reduce your gas or electric bill.
2. Buy a reusable mug or cup to use at fast food restaurants. Take this into McDonalds or wherever and use it instead of their paper cup and straw.
3. Turn out porch lights; there is no need to light up the night sky. If everyone did it, we might see more stars and benefit migrating birds.
4. TVs use energy even when off. Plug it and other devices into a power strip that can be turned off.
5. Install solar panels on your house or in your back yard. The price of electricity is skyrocketing. Solar panels will pay for themselves in just a few years. Then wash your clothes and use other appliances etc. during the day while you produce electricity.
6. Add batteries to store surplus energy produced by panels. Now you can use stored electricity at night when rates are high and your panels are not producing. Batteries will eventually pay for themselves.
7. Purchase an electric car. It is cheaper to drive than a gas car, especially if you have solar panels. Also, maintenance on an EV is very low. The added expense of buying an EV will be made up by low maintenance costs.
8. Get an electric bicycle with a rack for around the town errands. Not only will you get some exercise, you’ll save money by not driving your car.
9. Install a heat pump, it will both heat and cool your house more efficiently than a furnace and air conditioner, be quieter, and save you money.
10. Download the “Climate Action Now” app.
